A caring approach to patients with specialised needs
After graduating from Melbourne University, Penelope served her residency at the Austin Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for Women. Penelope then travelled to gain further experience and spent five years in the United Kingdom. Here, during her appointment as a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Bristol, she trained in infertility and IVF.
Penelope has worked at The Women’s Hospital since here return in 1989, and is now a senior member of the medical staff, with specialist appointments in reproductive services in infertility and chronic viral illness.
Her special interest is in chronic viral illness relating to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment. Penelope also has clinical responsibility for the embryo biopsy programme (PGD) for patients who access treatment for specialised reasons such as screening for genetic diseases, as well as clinical responsibility for the Melbourne IVF donor programme, which includes treatment using donor egg, sperm and embryos.
