Giving you the best chance of having a baby
If you need help conceiving a child, you’ll want to be sure that your fertility specialist and your IVF clinic give you the best possible chance of succeeding.
As part of Australia’s largest fertility care network, Melbourne IVF is responsible for almost half of all IVF babies born in Victoria every year. We have achieved one of the highest success rates in the world for assisted conception, and are equal to the best in Australia.
More than 80% of our patients under the age of 35 gave birth to a healthy baby within three IVF treatment cycles or less.
This graph shows our live birth rates over a two-year period, in a group of patients who had an embryo transfer using Day 2 cleavage stage embryos. Both fresh and frozen embryos were used.

What will my success rate be?
At your first appointment, your fertility specialist will give you an indication of how likely it is you’ll conceive with recommended fertility treatments. This could vary between 5% and 50%, depending on:
- your age
- your partner’s age
- how long you have been trying to conceive
- whether either of you already has a child
- any pre-existing medical conditions and
- if you have had any previous treatment for infertility.
Tests can also determine any underlying issues, and the impact this may have on your chance of success.
A successful advantage
Many patients come to us because they want to know they have given it their best shot. We often get complex and challenging cases as a result, but the collective knowledge of our specialist team within our network ensures the best possible solution is identified for every patient.
Pioneering expertise
We have over 30 years’ experience in IVF treatment. Some of our senior specialists were part of the team that helped the conception of Australia’s first IVF baby, at the Royal Women’s Hospital.
Best practice approach
Our full range of fertility services are performed to world best practice, and our research team is at the forefront of fertility treatment advances. In addition to IVF, ICSI and IUI treatment, we offer egg, sperm and embryo freezing, fertility preservation, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) and a supportive donor program.
Backed by science
Our embryo freeze/thaw embryo program gives you the best chance to create a family from a minimum number of cycles. We have proven success using embryos that have developed in incubators in the laboratory for two days (known as ‘cleavage stage’ embryos) to provide a higher number of healthy and viable embryos – one of which can be implanted and the others frozen for later use.
We also grow embryos in the laboratory for five days (known as Blastocyst embryos) when suited to patient circumstances, but have found that it is most successful in patients who already have a good likelihood of success.
Personalised care
When you come to Melbourne IVF, your dedicated treatment team will include nurses, counsellors and support staff. Importantly, your fertility specialist will perform all your procedures unless on leave. If that is the case another one of our highly trained specialists will ensure that you receive the same standard of care. We understand that every patient has a different story, and we work together to develop a treatment plan that will give you the best chance of a successful outcome.
